Only 16% of autistic adults are in full-time paid employment. And in almost a decade the situation hasn’t improved. All too often, employers don’t see ability. They see autism. They see a problem.
So many of you helped to change that by getting involved with World Autism Awareness Week 2017 from the 27th March to the 2nd of April. Not only did you raise money in such wonderful ways, but you also helped to increase understanding of autism in your workplace.
Our running total for WAAW 2017 stands at over £200,000 – and counting! This is a huge achievement by all who took part in the week and will go towards funding ground breaking work, such as our Too Much Information campaign, which is helping the public to understand autism, the person and what to do.
If any workplace was thinking about taking part next year, we would say do it! Be a progressive workplace which encourages diversity and acceptance, while having a bit of fun in the process!
Emily, Axcis Education
There were so many ways that workplaces got involved. We heard of people organising a quiz, running a sweepstake, setting up a 'jargon jar', having a dressing up day and organising a coffee morning, to name a few!
Thank you to all who took part and who made this such a life changing World Autism Awareness Week.
